Though we’re here to talk about and celebrate the iconic quotes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, we need to pause for a second and talk about the late, great, Phil Hartman. It makes sense that it’s a “couple” of acres if we are to assume that the cop has a complete package below the belt. When a cop approaches an angry Slater to confront him, he offers him “a couple of acres,” and immediately kicks the cop in the groin. But make no mistake, it’s corny enough to work, and the film still holds up despite the negative reception it garnered upon its release. It’s through this context that we witness the most cornball line delivery that Schwarzenegger has probably delivered to date. 10-year-old Austin O’Brien gets sucked into the film, and immediately realizes that he’s existing inside the action movie. Last Action Hero is centered around Schwarzenegger’s Detective Jack Slater, who is a fictional LAPD officer in a film within the film who is unaware that he’s actually starring in an action movie and thinks everything that’s happening is real. We also get some of Schwarzenegger's best one-liners because they’re all self-referential, and poke fun at some of his more serious films in a way that’s not totally patronizing. But it’s quickly made apparent that he’s on the side of the human resistance when he says, “come with me if you want to live.”ġ993’s Last Action Hero is a meta-action movie that heightens action movie tropes to ridiculous proportions. So when Sarah Connor sees Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 barge into her institution, she’s right to be terrified. In Judgment Day, Skynet sends back a more advanced model in the form of a liquid metal T-1000 robot (Robert Patrick), and the human resistance sends back a refurbished T-800 that looks identical to the antagonist in the first film. We’re now in the year 1995, and Sarah Connor has been institutionalized for her “delusions” of a robot uprising.
The T-800 model that Schwarzenegger portrays is the antagonist in the first Terminator film. John eventually grows up to be the leader of the Human Resistance against Skynet, an artificial superintelligence neural network that is hellbent on eradicating humanity. Let’s give you the rundown just in case you haven’t seen the best two Terminator films: In the first film, Schwarzenegger travels from the year 2029 to the year 1984 to murder Sarah Connor before her son, John, is born. Based on your pupil dilation, skin temperature, and motor functions, I calculate an 83% probability that you will not pull the trigger. We like to refer to this line as the “good ‘ole James Cameron switcheroo.” In the Terminator 2: Judgment Day trailer, it’s revealed to us that Schwarzenegger is playing the good robot, but Sarah Connor didn’t know that! I know now why you cry, but it’s something I can never do. SkyNet had to wipe out his entire existence! ~Kyle Reese 13. Taking out Connor then would make no difference. All I know is what the Terminator taught me, never stop fighting. You want to know the difference between us and the machines? We bury our dead. So for 20 years, I kept learning how to become a human. When my mission was completed, there were no further orders. Pain can be controlled, you just disconnect it. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.
